You ever hear the expression, ignorance is bliss?
I use to live by this statement.
The whole idea of not knowing any better, taking action, and moving forward appealed to me.
I didn’t know what I didn’t know.
I liked that.
So much so that I fully embraced this idea and way of thinking to help me move forward in life.
I had no idea what I was doing when I started my own business 15 years ago.
Ignorance was bliss.
And so I took action and got going without reading, studying, understanding the market, seeking guidance or mentorship.
This approach cost me lots of time, sleep, and money that ultimately lead to failure.
Ignorance was bliss, until it wasn’t.
I got engaged to a girl after just 6 months.
Ignorance was bliss.
And so I proposed, never taking the time to ask and fully understand her views, goals, and dreams for the future.
This approach led me to a marriage that was over before it ever got started.
Ignorance was bliss, until it wasn’t.
Friends, family, lovers.. I have this assumption they’ll be around forever.
Ignorance is bliss.
And so I don’t always tell them how much I love them, how much they mean to me, how incredible I think they are.
I’ve lost friends, family, lovers over the years without getting the opportunity to tell them how much they meant to me, how much I loved them.
Ignorance was bliss, until it wasn’t.
Ignorance isn’t bliss.
It’s unnecessary pain and suffering.
I’ve had to learn this the hard way but the good news is, I’ve learned.
And so now I study before sailing.
I choose listening over lusting.
And for all matters of the heart when it comes to family and friends, I’ve learned to replace frustration with appreciation.
Ignorance use to be bliss, until it wasn’t.
