How To Pursue What Makes You Happy & Squash Your Fear Of Both Failing & What Others May Say Or Think

You’ll never lose that much weight.

You can’t complete an Ironman Triathlon.

All small businesses fail, just get a real job.

Running across the entire country is silly.

Traveling is fun, but it’s not real life.

Your blog and videos are dumb.

It’s all just noise.

Do Your Thing

I probably don’t have to tell you that life is short, but I’ll tell you anyways.

Life is short.

I probably don’t have to tell you that it’s your life to live and no one else’s, but I’ll tell you anyways.

It’s your life to live, no one else’s.

I probably don’t have to tell you that it’s what you think that matters most, but I’ll tell you anyways.

It’s what you think that matters most.

“Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”

~ Steve Jobs ~

Do What Makes You Happy

You’re not here to live someone else’s life or follow a path that others may want or expect of you.

It’s your life and therefore your decision to do what you want, regardless of what others may think or say.

Who cares what others think or say anyways.

You can’t, nor should you, try to please everyone and make everyone like you. It’s not going to happen.

Your actions and decisions aren’t dictated by what others may think or say about you.

The sure key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Fear Of Failure

I had a conversation recently with a member of our community who mentioned wanting to do something different, different than her current career, something that made her happy and that she would enjoy doing.

She mentioned not wanting to act on anything too soon at the risk of failing. She wanted to make sure she was completely ready to make a move in an effort to avoid failure and the criticism that would follow from family and friends.

Failing is inevitable on the road to success.

It’s those who fail the most that achieve the most.

“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.”

~ Thomas Jefferson

Be Aware Of Your Surroundings

Surround yourself with people who support you, encourage you, and believe in you.

Environment is everything.

Don’t spend your time around people who are constantly telling you all the reasons why you can’t and shouldn’t do something. Instead, choose to spend your time with those who have already done it, are doing it, or believe you can do it.

“The fastest way to do the things you think can’t be done is to hang around the people already doing them.”

~ Scott Dinsmore ~

Here’s To The Crazy Ones, The Misfits….

Here’s just a few case studies of awesome people doing their own thing and giving the middle finger to fear and conformity, not thinking twice about what others might think or say about their endeavors.

Impossible Weight Loss

My sister shouldn’t have lost 40lbs. Owning and operating a medical practice, raising two kids, heavily involved in other weekly commitments, taking care of mom and grandma, there wasn’t enough time to breath, let alone eat right, exercise, and lose weight, but she did. Commitment, persistence, and an unwavering desire to succeed, despite negative influences advising her to focus only on her business and family and not worry so much about her weight. You can read her story here.

Ironman

A long time client and good friend or mine decided to start training for her first Ironman Triathlon after only having ran a half marathon. Many thought she was crazy. What’s crazy is the fact that she did it, and has completed several of them now along with dozens of marathons and several ultra marathons as well.

World Travel

Friends of mine decided to sell off all of their belongings (in fact, they just recently sold their house) to go travel the world for an unspecified period of time. Many think this is crazy, that they’re crazy for giving up the life they have and selling everything to pursue a life of travel. They think it’d be crazy not to. You can read all about them, their story, and keep up on all their upcoming adventures here.

Network Marketing

Other friends of mine are thriving in the the world of network marketing. It’s a tough but lucrative path if you’re willing to invest the time and effort in the process which both of these girls are doing. While many are turned off by the world of network marketing and are quick to disregard their efforts, they see it as an opportunity to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others.

Cross Country Run

This past summer, I had the pleasure of meeting Nicole Antoinette, who’s currently training to run across the entire United States. Recently married and now battling an injury from her rigorous training schedule, Nicole isn’t letting injury, let alone fear or the thought of what others might think or say about her idea to run across the country, stop her.

The Wellness Bucket

When I created this website, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, I’m still not, and it doesn’t matter. What does matter is the idea, the vision I have, the belief in all that can be and will be. I’ve been laughed at, ignored, even insulted. I’ve been asked, “what are you doing anyways? Why are you wasting your time with posts and videos that no one is paying attention to?” Fear of failure or what others may say or think of me and what I am out to create will not stop me from doing what I believe in.

WARNING: Foul Language Ahead

“Listen, smile, agree. And then do whatever the fuck you were going to do anyways.”

~  Robert Downey Jr. ~

Do What You Want To Do

Remember that you are not entitled to live any other life than the one you want, the one that makes you happy.

Anyone who cares for you, loves you, and has your best interest at heart, will support you in all your endeavors, regardless of what they may be or whether or not you fail or succeed.

Fear is a lie. Don’t believe it.

As far as worrying about what others say or think of you, remember this…..

Once they stop talking about you, they start talking about you.

Do what makes you happy.

  • Hey Mike,
    great post! Very inspirational.

My story is similarly. When I first started talking about becoming self-employed and making my living online, everyone tried to convince me to stay in my job or at least try to get another, more fulfilling job. However, I somehow knew that this wasn’t my path. I’m not built for being employed.

After 6 months of building my online business on the side, I made enough income to replace my paycheck. Living with my parents surely helps, because it reduces the cost of living heavily.

However, I’m now running a profitable web design business and I’m launching a service business for WordPress owners on Oct. 13th (next Monday).

Only very few people around me believed that this was possible, and most still believe they couldn’t do it themselves.

It’s a pity to see so many people wasting their lives in draining jobs instead of going out and doing what they’re meant to do. Hopefully our journeys are an inspiration to anyone listening and encourage them to pursue their dreams.

    Keep it up,
    Jan
