Burning Out From The Hustle

I feel like everywhere I look these days, I see the word “hustle” being thrown around.

You want to lose weight? Hustle to make it happen.

You want to create a successful business? Hustle to make it happen.

You want to make more money? Hustle to make it happen.

You want better relationships? Hustle to make it happen.

You want to be a great parent, husband, or wife? Hustle to make it happen.

Hustle, hustle, hustle.

I don’t disagree that in order for me to achieve my goals, it’s a must that I show up and work hard every single day.

Committed, consistent, disciplined, and patient.

That being said, I don’t believe in hustling at the expense of the two things that matter most to me.

My health and my relationships.

This is me now but that wasn’t always the case. I use to subscribe to the “hustle for success at any expense” philosophy.

The result? I burned out from little sleep, barely eating, and overwhelming stress and anxiety that landed me in the emergency room.

My obsessive focus to grow my business lead to my most important relationships deteriorating.

I got to the point where I was starting to resent the work I once loved doing and was passionate about.

This was my doing. I chose to put the hustle before my health. I chose to put the hustle before my happiness. I chose to put the hustle before my fulfillment.

The things that mattered most to me took a back seat to the hustle. A mistake I’m determined to never make again.

If I create a successful business without those I love around me to share it with, that to me isn’t success.

If I increase my revenue ten fold but don’t have the health to then enjoy all I’ve created, that to me isn’t success.

I see friends of mine hustling to be the best parents they can be for their kids but at the expense of their relationship with each other.

I’m all for the hustle, but now it takes a back seat to my health and relationships that matter most to me.

Because to me, the ultimate failure is success without the health and fulfillment to then enjoy it.
